What are fibers ? Where are they from ? What are their uses ?

Fibers are plants zones, that belongs to sclerenchymatical tissue( support tissue, with enzimes and mechanic resistance ), they are long cells, with characteristic thin ends and with secondary lignified wall.

Sclerenchymatic cells have a hard wall, due to it has lignin( a heterogeneous polymer obtained for dehydrogenative polimerizatyon of alcohols like: p-cumarílico alcohol, conyferilic alcohol and synapilic alcohol , in enzimes catalyzed reaction by free radicals way).

These fibers are plants body that we may eat or carbon hydra
tes that support digestion and absorption in stomach and small intestine, with complete or parcial degradation in large intestine.
Fibers' properties are: prompt laxative efect and/or decrease glycemia.

Fibers are classified into :

a) Soluble: like pectines, mucilags, soluble hemycellulose, . They are able to produce gels and are rapidly degradated in large intestine.

b) Insoluble: like liginina, cellulose and insoluble hemycellulose. They are slowly degradated

It's recommended eat 20 g- 30g of fiber per day, but avoid eat only insoluble fiber, if not, both soluble and insoluble fibers. And if you don't use to eat fibers, is necessary you begin with low amount of fiber and progressively you will increase it.

Examples of meals w
ith a lot of soluble fiber are: kydney beans, oats and the most of vegetable natural foods.
Fiber'sProperties
  • Decrease cholesterol levels: Soluble fiber avoid reabsortion of intestinal cholesterol produced for bile to meals digestion. Moreover this fiber produces a gel that catches this cholesterol, which is expeled out of body without travel for blood stream. Liver catches cholesterol necessary to synthesize fat acids from blood, therefore cholestero level decreases. These cholesterol decreasing, reduces vascular accident risk. It has been demonstrated that consume foods with soluble fiber , decrease cholesterol levels until 10%.
  • Avoid Constipation :Constipation is produced by retention of fecal matter into intestine. Consume insoluble fiber helps to increase fecal matter, which produces more peristalsis( intestine movement), which expel fecal matter out of body.On the other hand, soluble fiber helps to soften fecal matter, prompting its elimination. Therefore, it's necesary consume both, soluble and insoluble fiber to avoid constipation.
  • Avoid decompostion: Intestinal decompositions are produced by hermful bacteria, which increase when fecal matter spend a lot of time into intestine and produce abdomen sick, abdominal swelling, flatulence, etc. Fiber carries out peristalsis regulation, decreasing time to expel feces and therefore avoid decomposition. On the other hand, fiber helps to increase beneficial bacteria and neutralize harmful bacteria.
  • Avoid cancer: As fiber help to expel feces, it helps to expel toxins consumed in meals( these toxins come from production and preservation process) and finally present at fecal matter. Therefore, it's necessary eliminate this toxins soon. Studies demonstrated that people that consume a suitable amount of fiber, have less chances to suffer colon cancer, chest cancer and lung cancer.
  • Decrease glycemia:Fiber delays carbohydrates absorption, thefore, it avoides sudden increases of glucose, characteristic of diabetes patients.
  • Avoid haemorrhoids: Haemorrhoids are produced when it's applied a big pressure above rectum veins. It's is produced when intestinal evacuation is difficult. Fiber helps to soften feces and therefore it will be easier eliminate fecal matter.
